Having trouble withdrawing cash from ATM at Halong cruise port

I tried to withdraw about 5 million VND from the ATM at Halong cruise port but it didn’t work.

The machine only showed a few smaller amounts and my card kept getting declined when I tried larger amounts.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a withdrawal limit at the ATMs in the port?

Yes, this is quite common. Many ATMs at Halong cruise port only show suggested withdrawal amounts of up to 2 million VND on the main screen.

If you want to withdraw a different amount, you usually need to select “Other” and then enter the number manually.

Most machines will allow around 3 to 3.5 million VND per transaction.

So if you want to withdraw 5 million VND, you normally have to do it in two separate withdrawals.

Keep in mind that not every international card works smoothly with Vietnamese ATMs. Sometimes transactions are declined depending on the bank.

The safest option is to prepare some cash before arriving in Vietnam. You can bring USD cash, which is widely accepted for exchange.

If you have USD, you can either pay in some places or exchange it to Vietnamese Dong at the information counters or exchange services at the port.

That makes sense. I’ll try withdrawing a smaller amount next time or just bring some USD. Thanks for the helpful tips!
