I’m planning to visit Hanoi for a day while my cruise ship is docked in Halong.
Ideally I’d like to stay in Hanoi as long as possible, maybe until around 9:00 pm or later, before heading back to the ship.
Is that possible? Will the port still be open late at night so I can return to the ship?
The gangway to the ship usually closes at around 11:30 pm for a short period.
It normally reopens again at around midnight (00:00), so if you arrive a little late you will still be able to board the ship.
The drive from Hanoi back to Halong usually takes about 3 hours, so if you leave Hanoi around 9:00 pm, you should reach the port around 11:00 pm.
And if you happen to arrive exactly when the gangway is temporarily closed, don’t worry too much. Just grab a cold beer somewhere near the port, relax for about 30 minutes, and then you can board the ship once it reopens.
Yes, that’s possible. On days when international cruise ships dock in Halong, the port normally operates 24 hours a day so passengers can return to the ship at any time.
