Many travelers think Halong Bay is quiet at night, but that’s only if you stay on the boat! If you are staying onshore in the Bai Chay or Hon Gai area, here are the best ways to experience the city after dark.
1. For a Chill Vibe: Beachside Bars & Pubs
If you want to enjoy a cocktail with your toes in the sand, head to the Bai Chay beach strip. These places are famous for their "chill" atmosphere and great music.
- Valley Beach Club: The most popular outdoor club with fire dances and DJ sets right on the beach.
Location: Bãi tắm Bãi Cháy, Hạ Long - Sailing Club Lounge: A more upscale, sophisticated spot for premium drinks and a stunning view of the bay.
Location: Khu đô thị Halong Marina
2. For Foodies: Halong Night Market & Old Town
Perfect for a casual stroll, souvenir shopping, and trying local street food.
- Halong Night Market: Best for grabbing a quick snack or a cheap t-shirt. Remember the "Bargaining Guide" we posted!
Location: Hoàng Quốc Việt, Bãi Cháy - Bãi Cháy Old Town (Phố cổ): Designed like Hoi An/Hanoi Old Quarter. Great for Instagram photos and finding hidden craft beer pubs.
Location: Đường Hạ Long, Bãi Cháy
3. For the Best View: Rooftop Cafes
To see the city lights and the Bai Chay Bridge from above, head to the hills.
- Freshie Food & Drinks: A healthy cafe with a Mediterranean vibe and a great view of the bay.
Location: Trần Quốc Nghiễn, Hồng Gai - Sky Bar (Sheraton Ha Long): One of the highest bars in the city for a 360-degree panoramic view.
Local Expert’s Tip: Most local spots start to close around 11:00 PM - 12:00 AM. If you plan to take a taxi back to your hotel late at night, use Grab or Xanh SM to ensure a fair, tracked price.
