I really want to visit Hanoi while my cruise is docked. Is it safe in terms of timing?

It’s possible, but timing is tight and risky

Travel time is around 2.5–3 hours each way depends on traffic

Traffic can be unpredictable. You need to leave Hanoi early to be safe. Avoid leaving fr 16-19:00

Should I use grab to go and back? Is it available at Halong port?

@tom-cat This's fine if you want to save the cost. But private driver is better choice with support team also. Look for Halong Bay Transfers or Halong Bay Shore Excursion
