We’ll be stopping in Halong Bay on Oceania Regatta and I’m trying to decide between joining a group tour or chartering a private boat.
Would love to hear your thoughts, which one is better and why?
Thanks!
Group tours are definitely more budget friendly. They’re also a good option if you enjoy a social atmosphere and don’t mind being around other travelers.
Private charters are a completely different experience. You get full privacy and a much more relaxed, personal atmosphere, great for families or couples
Most group tours follow a fixed schedule.
- Set departure and return times
- Usually buffet-style lunch
- Standard itinerary
So it’s quite structured and predictable.
Private cruises usually serve set menus, which tend to feel more curated compared to buffet meals on group tours.
Flexibility is a big advantage of private charters. You can adjust departure times slightly and move at your own pace, which is especially helpful when coordinating with a cruise schedule.
So it really comes down to preference:
- Group tour >> cheaper, social, structured
- Private charter >> more expensive, but private and flexible
Both are good, just different experiences
thanks for your quick info
