Halong Bay on Dec 28 (near New Year). Will it affect my cruise stop?

Hi everyone,

I’ll be cruising on Celebrity Solstice and docking in Halong Bay on December 28.

I understand it’s close to the New Year period, so I’m wondering if that will affect anything?

Is there anything I should be aware of or plan ahead for?

Thanks a lot!

Vietnam mainly celebrates Lunar New Year, not Western New Year like in the US or UK. So you won’t see a full shutdown like in some countries

Western New Year still has some impact. Staff working during that period often get holiday pay, which can push prices up slightly

You might notice higher costs for:
- Tours
- Private transfers
- Guides

It’s not extreme, but definitely something to expect. Demand can also be higher around that time. Some locals get time off work, and international travel peaks as well, so things can book out faster

book everything in advance. Don’t wait until the last minute, especially for transport or private tours. Also double check if there are any holiday surcharges. Some providers add small extra fees during that period
