Big luxury day cruises vs smaller boats in Halong Bay, which should I choose?

I’m currently choosing between different Halong Bay day cruises and I’m a bit confused.
Some boats look huge, modern and very luxurious (almost like mini cruise ships), while others are smaller and more traditional.
Is there a big difference between them in terms of experience?
Which one would you personally recommend?
Thanks!

There’s actually a pretty clear shift in the market recently.

Instead of the traditional 48-99 passenger boats, a lot of newer cruises are now much larger, with multiple decks and capacities of a few hundred people.

They’re designed more like floating restaurants or mini cruise ships

Traditional boats (wood or small steel ones) are usually more simple:
- Smaller group feels more personal
- Food is decent but not fancy
- Easier to charter if you're in a group

They’re not as impressive, but feel more relaxed and less commercial.

The bigger cruises are a completely different experience.

- Buffet style food with lots of options
- Much more space, multiple decks
- More stable and generally safer feeling

But you’ll also be sharing the space with a lot more people

If you’re traveling solo or as a couple, you might feel a bit lost

I think it comes down to what kind of experience you want:

- Cozy / more attention, go for smaller traditional boats
- Comfort / modern / luxury vibe, go for the big cruise ships

Neither is wrong, just different styles

bigger, newer boats are usually more stable and better equipped. That can make a difference if you're traveling with family or older people
